Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

At Partners, we honor both your privacy and your trust. The confidentiality of your personal information and therapeutic experience is foundational to the safe, supportive environment we provide. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information across our website, services, and practice. By engaging with us — whether through our website, by phone, or in person — you agree to the practices described here.

Our Ethical Commitment

Partners follows the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Code of Ethics and all HIPAA standards to ensure your information is treated with the highest level of care. We are committed to creating a space that is inclusive, safe, and respectful of all clients, regardless of background or identity.

We’re also governed by North Carolina law, which upholds confidentiality in mental health treatment. Under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 122C-52, client information is not considered a public record and may only be disclosed as allowed under G.S. 122C-53 through G.S. 122C-56.

What We Collect & How We Use It

  • We may collect personal information when you:
  • Request or schedule services.
  • Complete forms or make payments online.
  • Contact us via phone, email, or our website.
  • This information may include your name, address, phone number, email, and payment details. We use it to:
  • Schedule and provide counseling services.
  • Communicate with you about appointments and services.
  • Process payments securely.
  • Share practice updates or resources (if you opt in).
  • We never sell or rent your personal information.

Confidentiality & Exceptions

Your personal information and therapeutic records are confidential. However, we are legally and ethically required to break confidentiality under the following circumstances:

  • Suspected abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult.
  • Threats of serious harm to self or others.
  • A valid court order requiring disclosure.

How We Protect Your Information

  • We take multiple steps to safeguard your personal information:
  • Administrative, technical, and physical security measures.
  • Encrypted systems for electronic communications and payments.
  • Internal policies that limit access only to authorized team members.
  • While no system can be guaranteed 100% secure, we remain vigilant in maintaining your confidentiality and safety.

Session Cancellations

We respect your time and ask the same in return:

  • Couples counseling, individual counseling, and pre-marital sessions require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule without charge.
  • Intensives require at least 7 days notice to cancel or reschedule without charge.
  • Late cancellations or missed appointments will be billed at the full session rate.

Minors

Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18 without the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian.

North Carolina has a mandatory reporting requirement for known or suspected child abuse under N.C.G.S. 7B-301, which we follow without exception.

Although NC does not mandate a "duty to warn" (like Tarasoff), ethical judgment may guide disclosure in serious circumstances.

Third-Party Links

Our website may link to other sites for resources or convenience. We do not control the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.

Updates to This Policy

Partners reserves the right to update this policy at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
